Mexico generates around 42 million tons of waste annually, with only 7.5% of it being properly recycled. This low recycling rate has led to environmental challenges, as landfills are filling up and waste management systems struggle to keep up. The country ranks among the highest in Latin America for plastic waste, with around 1.5 million tons of plastic produced every year. By recycling more effectively, Mexico could reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy, and lessen pollution. Additionally, the recycling industry could generate over 30,000 jobs and reduce the country's reliance on virgin raw materials. Recycling, in this context, is not only an environmental imperative but also a significant opportunity for economic growth and sustainability.
